About Adoption

Adoption is a way of providing a safe, loving and permanent family for a child who can’t live with their birth parents or within their birth family.

Adoptive parents take on the legal responsibility for a child and care for them as their own.

Who can adopt?

Adopters need to be over 21 years old.

You can be:

  • single
  • in a civil partnership
  • married or co-habiting
  • heterosexual or a member of the LGBTQ+ community
  • living in rented accommodation or your own home

Who are the children waiting?

Children waiting to be adopted are of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds. Some will have additional needs, be part of a sibling group and nearly all adopted children will have experienced some level of trauma.
